Imphal, October 31 2021: Single use plastic waste collection and cleanliness drives in villages and places of Imphal West district organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Imphal West under the month long Clean India Campaign, as a part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, concluded at Khumbong Bazar on Sunday.
In a release, NYK Imphal West deputy director L Marjitkumar Singh stated that the closing function was attended by Konthoujam MLA and advisor to CM (Health) Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh as chief guest.
During the month long programme in Imphal West district, 3,865 kg of single used plastic waste were collected by the volunteers and youth club members from different villages and were disposed of.
In Manipur, 2409 programmes were organised and 70,654 kg of plastic waste were collected and disposed of properly.
The volunteers and women of Khumbong also cleaned and collected plastic waste at Khumbong Bazar area, it added.
NYK mentioned that the programme was also actively participated by Local Disaster Response Force (LDRF) Khumbong, Imphal West Students' Club Khumbong, Fruit Plantation Mission Khumbong, ward members of Gram Panchayat, etc.
'Plant saplings of 'Yongchak' (Parkia) were also distributed to the villagers of Khumbong by the MLA during the programme, it stated.
