Residents of Manipur visit Mount Manipur

Imphal, October 27 2021: A team of Preservation Committee of Deported Manipuri War Heroes A & N Islands led by its president, Oja Tomba visited Mount Manipur (previously Mount Harriet) in Andaman & Nicobar Islands on October 26.The team was also accompanied by Binod Kumar Meetei, Sanahanbi Devi and MT Musthafa (Andaman) and they are the first ever residents of Manipur to visit Mount Manipur after the name change.


It is worth mentioning that Oja Tomba has made 16 trips to these islands since 2006 till date to take up the matter of recognition of the Manipuri heroes of the Anglo Manipuri War, 1891 who had sacrificed their life in cellular jail.

Also it may be noted that the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah made the announcement of renaming Mount Harriet as Mount Manipur on October 16, 2021 during a public function held at Port Blair.
