Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Clean India programme held

Thoubal, October 25 2021: In line with the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has undertaken the "Clean India" programme from October 1-31, 2021 .

In a release, Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal stated that the programme is aimed at creating awareness, mobilization of people and ensuring their involvement in the Clean India initiative.

The Objective is to organize activities to clean waste, mainly Single Use Plastic waste throughout the country, by involving all segments of society, Government organizations including PRIs and Non-Government Organizations as People's Movement through Jan Bhagidari.

In Thoubal District, after the launch of Clean India Program on October 1 at Thoubal Municipal Council by District Administration, cleanliness drives have been carried out at District level by various Government departments, NGOs, SHGs, NSS, CSOs etc as per 'calendar of activities' and at village level, council level, GP Level, etc by Municipal Councils, PRIs, SHGs, Meira paibis & youth clubs led by Nehru Yuva Kendra Thoubal volunteers.


The activities included cleanliness drives by Anganwadi workers at their respective Centres/localities between October 20-24, Children Homes under DCPU organising cleanliness drive on October 23, cleaning of Salungpham Ward no 7 by Meira Paibis on October 20, cleaning of Thoubal Bazaar by Red Cross, Lions Club, Blood Donors and Thoubal Police with TMC cleaning Thoubal Wangmataba on October 13, campus cleaning of Waikhom Mani Girls College by teaching & non-teaching staff on October 11, Shri Sathya Sai Seva cleaning Thoubal District Hospital on October 9, SHGs under TMC and Khangabok pt III GP undertaking plastic waste collection on regular basis apart from daily door to door collection drive by the Municipal Councils of Thoubal, Yairipok, Lilong, Shikhong-Sekmai, Heirok and Wangjing-Lamding, etc.

At the village level, NYK Thoubal through its volunteers & network of Youth Clubs conducted Plastic Waste collection at Leisangthem, Wangkhem, Kshetri Leikai, Wangoo, Lamding Elangbam Leikai, Keirak, Sapam Laibung Leikai, HWC Kangjeibung Wabagai, Saram, Wangkhem Bazaar, Keibung, etc.

Cleaning of Khongjom War Memorial is also tentatively planned on October 30, it added.

NYK Thoubal further informed that a review meeting of 'Clean India Activities of District Monitoring Committee' would be held at Conference Hall DC Thoubal, and a 'Closing Programme cum Weight Measurement' of collected plastic wastes under Clean India Programme at TMC Thoubal on November 1, where the best performing SHGs under TMC would be announced and awarded.
