Tamenglong, October 21 2021: A poster campaign on 'Save Amur Falcon 2021' or 'Gaklou Dikho Akhoipuina 2021' organised jointly by Tamenglong Forest Division and Rainforest Club Tamenglong was launched by Forest, Environment & Climate Change minister Awangbow Newmai on Thursday at Tamenglong Forest IB.
Tamenglong Forest Division officials and public leaders were also present at the launch event.
As per a report by Dr Suresh Kumar, scientist E of Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Chiulon, the satellite transmitter-tagged Amur falcon reached Tamenglong HQ on Tuesday at 4:15 am.
The forest minister requested the general public to support the department's conservation efforts of Amur falcons in Tamenglong District during the birds' migratory season of October and November.
He then explained that Amur falcons play an important role in maintaining the ecosystem of many countries and hunting them may attract unwanted legal actions such as imprisonment up to three years in jail and also monetary fine of up to Rs 25,000 .
The Forest Department is trying to protect our winged guests by deploying volunteers and forest staff.
To inculcate the love and compassion of these migratory birds, Forest Department is going to celebrate the State Level Amur Falcon Festival at Chiuluan during second week of November 2021, he informed.
