Kharkhola can be 'Darjeeling of Manipur': MLA

Kangpokpi, October 13 2021: Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen has said that Kharkhola near Kalapahar village can be turned into the 'Darjeeling of Manipur' considering the beauty and topographical condition of the area.

Attending the closing ceremony of Durga Puja Open Football Tournament, 2021 organised by Upper Kalapahar Gorkha Youth Club at its ground as chief guest on Wednesday, MLA Nemcha stated that the chief minister during the 'Go to Hills 2.0' programme has rightly pointed out that without a politically stable government, development cannot be accomplished perfectly and for that matter citizens need to vote for BJP to get absolute majority in the upcoming state assembly election.

She also noted that individual discipline has become more important than ever in the society as it has become the backbone for a disciplined society and such characteristics can be achieved in sports more than others.

Thus, games and sports are very much important in the construction of a disciplined society.

The MLA also appreciated the Gorkha community for their relentless contribution towards a peaceful society and lauded Upper Kalapahar Gorkha Youth Club for organising such a grand sports event during Durga Puja, while adding that festivity wfth the fervour of sports always instil a spirit of oneness.

Meanwhile, IT Camp Heng-bung claimed the men's football title after defeating Lei-makhong Gorkha 2-0 with goals from Aseng (45 min) and Basant (56 min).

The champion team was awarded cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with the trophy and the runner-up side was awarded Rs 15,000 and trophy.

In women's football, IT Camp Hengbung defeated Charhajare Gorkha 3-0.Bandana Gewali of Upper Kalapahar Gorkha Youth Club, Pooja Basnet of Koubru Laikha and Sanjita of Toribarj were adjudged Best Keeper, Best Player and Top Scorer respectively in women's football while Navin Rana of RFSC, Abinash Gurung of PGYC (A), Nitin Chauhan of Kharkhola, Sonit Thapa of PGYC (A) were awarded Best Player, Best Defence, Best Keeper and Top Scorer awards respectively in men's football.

The closing ceremony was also attended by former ADC Sadar Hills member Milan Pradhan as functional president.
