Imphal, October 14 2021: Amur Falcon birds, which flock to Tamenglong district every year around October and November, have started arriving in the district as some birds were sighted in Puching village on October 8, and in Chiulon village on October 12.According to-forest department officials, around 300 to 400 Amur Falcons have arrived in Tamenglong district so far and the number will increase to nearly 2 lakhs by the end of first week of November.
Earlier in October 2019, a joint team of forest department and Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun attached GPS trackers on five birds and released them to study their flight route.
The five birds were named Chiulon, Puching, Phalong, Irang and Barak.
Three of the birds had stopped sending GPS signal but Chiulon and Irang are still sending signals.
Irang was located near Beijing (China) while Chiulon was traced in Myanmar on October 5.Both the birds are expected to reach Tamenglong in a couple of days.
Officials informed that Rainforest Club Tamenglong and Tamenglong Forest Division will begin poster Campaign and awareness programmes soon to protect the migratory birds.
