Thoubal, October 14 2021: With the help of members of Kekru Yairi Club, Leirongthel-Ningel Gram Panchayat nominee pradhan Salam Kumar has built a boulder-gravel based weir across the Etok river to supply water to the villagers of Khoirom, Kekru and Bamol Leikai villages under Wangkhem assembly constituency.

The weir was developed to prevent free flow of the river river consequent to drying of Tamenkhong Ethei and Thoubal Multipurpose Project canal.

The step to shore up the water of Etok river which passes through Saram, Phanjakhong, Chandrakhong and Leirongthel villages and flows into the Thoubal river was taken by Salam Kumar considering the problems faced by the villagers.
