Ukhrul, October 11 2021: Mapithel Dam Affected Villages on Monday staged a sit-in protest at Lamlai Khunou demanding release of water from Mapitel dam and to stop the Thoubal Multipurpose project.
In a joint statement, MDAHCEO and JAC-AFCMD urged the State Government to implement the 19 points agreement signed in 2020 or stop the Thoubal Multipurpose project.
The affected villages have reacted strongly against the State Government failure to honour the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed with the Water Resources Department, Government of Manipur on December 4, 2020 .

"An ultimatum was also submitted to the State Government on August 16, 2021 but without any response from the Government till date, compelling the affected villages to impose a 48 hour total highway bandh in Ukhrul and Kamjong", it said.
It also alleged that the State Government has paid no heed to the grievances and remained silent to the demands of the people.
The affected villages further urged the State Government to release water from the reservoirs of Mapithel dam and stop the Thoubal Multipurpose project.
The one day sit-in protest was jointly organised by Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs and Elders Organisation (MDAHCEO) and Joint Action Committee Against Force Construction of Mapithel Dam, (JAC-AFCMD) at Lamlai Khunou under Litan police, Kamjong.
