Deforestation, quarrying activities worries MSF

Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, October 05 2021: Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has announced that it will be looking into ongoing deforestation and earth quarrying activities being carried out in the hill and valley areas of the state.

According to a statement issued by its secretary (Environment and Ecology Affairs), MSF said it is a well-known fact that deforestation and earth quarrying causes soil erosion.

However, the activities continue in the name of development.

As such, there are frequent incidents of landslides, soil erosion, etc., even during low rainfall.

This, in turn, has affected the natural environment of the state, not to mention of the climatic changes.

Thus, MSF will be taking up the mantle of protecting the environment of the state and as such, will be looking into ongoing deforestation and mountain quarrying activities under its campaign, 'Sanghallasi Manipur' .
