Awareness prog on Jal Jeevan Mission held

Jiribam, September 29 2021: District Water and Sanitation Committee, Jiribam in coordination with Hilghat Gram Panchayat organised a one-day awareness programme on Jal Jeevan Mission and Swatch Bharat Mission Gramin at Leingangpokpi op Wednesday.

The awareness programme was attended by PHED Jiribam executive engineer W Anandakumar, Hilghat GP pradhan L Samarendra, Hilghat GP ward members and PHED staffers.

Regarding the awareness programme, Anandakumar said that Azadi Ka Amrit programme is being organised throughout the country in connection with the celebration of the 75th year of India's independence and the Wednesday's event was held as part of the celebration under the aegis of District Water and Sanitation Committee at different parts of Jiribam district.

Altogether 22 water supply schemes are being taken up under Jal Jeevan Mission in Jiribam while individual household sanitary latrine, community sanitary complex, plastic and solid waste management, composite pits are being constructed under Swatch Bharat Mission.

Apart from this, different works are being taken up under the Ministry of Jal Shakti by the department of drinking water and sanitation of the Government of India, he said, adding the main objective of the programme is to make the people, particularly in rural area, aware about the initiatives taken up by the department to improve health, water and sanitation hygiene and drinking water facilities.

He then urged people to extend help and support towards achieving the mission of providing drinking water to every household of the country by 2024 .

As part of the programme, participants were imparted training on testing water for drinking by using field test kit while one each field test kit was provided for Babukhal and Leingangpokpi villages.
