Discourse on 'disaster risk reduction' begins

Imphal, September 26 2021: Department of Teacher Education, Manipur University in association with Child Centric Disaster Risk Reduction Centre, National Institute of Disaster Management, Government of India jointly launched a 3-day online orientation training programme on "Child centric disaster risk reduction centre" on Sunday.

The inaugural function of the programme, which will go on till September 24, was attended by MU VC Prof N Lok endra Singh, registrar Prof W Chandbabu Singh, NIDM CCDRR Centre HOD Prof Santosh Kumar, Dr Kumar Raka, Ranjan Kumar, Dr Balu I and various other resources persons.

Speaking at the event, MU Department of Teacher Education and coordinator Dr Koijam Sobita pointed out that natural disasters such as tsunami, earthquakes, cyclones, floods, pandemic, etc., give physical, mental, social and psychological impact on young children.

Imbalanced diet and trauma from familial separation often led young children to depression and anxiety.

As such, it is important to protect the children from the impacts of such events as far as possible, she added.
