Prime Minister releases 35 climate resilient crop varieties

Imphal, September 28 2021: 35 climate resilient crop varieties were released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in PM's Interaction Programme with the Farmers on "Mass Awareness Campaign for Large-Scale Dissemination of Climate Resilient Agricultural Technologies and Methods" held today through on-line mode.

The climate resilient crop varieties were released by the Prime Minister during the programme which was shared with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre and KVK Imphal West at the ICAR Conference Hall, said a press release issued by ICAR, Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur.

The PM interacted with the farmers' from across the country and Ph Thoiba Singh, a retired military person and farmer from Thoubal district also got the chance to interact with him.

The PM also appreciated the works of ICAR Institutes, KVKs, Agricultural Universities and farmers and scientists.

He further appreciated the ICAR-National Institute of Biotic Stress Management, Raipur for their significant achievements in releasing such crop varieties and technologies, added the press release.

At ICAR, Manipur Centre, Dr I M Singh, Joint Director stressed on the promotion of climate resilient crop varieties with reference to the condition of Manipur.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Kh Nabakumar Singh, Member, ICAR General Body, New Delhi stressed on the importance of improving agricultural production through team work of farmers of Manipur with ICAR and KVK-Imphal West to make the State a self-sufficient one.

He also asserted that working in a collaborative way will benefit the farming community of the state.

Experts from KVK-Imphal West have deliberated lectures and interacted with the participating farmers regarding the climate resilient crops, technologies and their application in Manipur.

Later improved seeds and planting materials were also distributed to the farmers.
