Imphal, September 16 2021: A consignment of cut and dried organic turmeric produced by farm producer companies of MOMA has been sent to the Kerala-based PDS Organic Spices on Thursday.
Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) functions under the department of horticulture and soil conservation, Manipur and the agency promotes many farm producer companies under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER).
A total of 10 metric tonne of cut and dried organic turmeric produced by MOMA's farm producer companies based in Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts was sent to the Kerala based spices company as first consignment.
The first consignment of cut and dried organic turmeric was flagged off from horticulture and soil conservation department by MOMA project director and joint director (horticulture) Devdutta Sharma from department's office complex at Sanjenthong.
The flagging off ceremony was also attended by Grassroots Syndicate Producer Company Limited and Diocesan Social Service Society director Rev Fr Biju Lukos.
The first consignment of organic turmeric was produced by MOMA promoted farm producer companies based in Noney and Tamenglong districts namely Renglung Organic Farmers Producers' Company Limited and Ukhrul and Kamjong based Oriental Organic Farmers Producers' Company Limited.
Products of the two farm producer companies were marketed by Grassroots Syndicate Producer Company Limited and facilitated by Diocesan Social Service Society with the support of MOMA.
Rev Fr Biju Lukos told media persons that around 5000 farmers of farm producer companies promoted by MOMA are cultivating organic turmeric and ginger and organic products of these companies have high demand outside the state apart from giving benefits to farmers.
A total of 20 metric tonne will be sent to Kerala.
