Imphal, September 15 2021: DC Imphal East Khumanthem Diana has appealed to people to shoulder the responsibility in keeping their surroundings neat and clean without waiting for the government and district admin istration.
Diana made this appeal during launch function of a 15-day long Swachhata Hi Seva campaign which is jointly being organised by the district administration, Imphal East district police and District Water and Sanitation Committee.
The campaign has been launched to coincide with the countrywide Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
During the event, Diana said that the district administration and the line departments are making every possible effort to keep the road around the district headquarters neat and clean by conducting various cleanliness campaign but people residing on both sides of the road seem to lack cooperation as they continue to throw garbage on the road sides.
The district administration has option to initiate punitive action, she cautioned while lamenting that people continue to dump household wastes on road sides during night time and the same is being done in other roads of the district.
She thus appealed to people to stop throwing garbage on road sides and understand effects of such activity to the surrounding and environment.
PHED Imphal East division executive engineer Keisham Bishorjit said that the campaign will continue till Gandhi Jayanti which falls on October 2 and cleanliness drive will be conducted in various parts of Imphal East district as part of the campaign.
He also appealed to people to join the campaign for making the district neat and clean.
The launch function of the campaign was also attended by Imphal East Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha P Bimola, additional SP Imphal East Roni Mayengbam and officials of PHED Imphal East division.
