Kangpokpi, September 04 2021: Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) chairman and Oinam Assembly Constituency MLA, L Radhakishore inaugurated an Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station at Kangpokpi today.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by the local MLA Nemcha Kipgen, DC Kangpokpi, Somorjit Salam, Kh Premkanta Singh, Sr Environmental Engineer, MPCB and other officials and staff of Air Quality Station Kangpokpi, leaders of Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Committee, and Kangpokpi Youth Union.

Speaking on the occasion, L Radhakishore said that to remain healthy, we must breathe clean air and drink clean water while adding that polluted air could land us in various health issues if we breathe in for a long period.
He continued that under the supervision of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, measures are being undertaken to control air pollution and installation of air quality monitoring stations have been carried out at various places.
The MLA highlighted the importance of local bodies and urged the local town committee, women, and youths to extend all possible cooperation and support towards the department.
Nemcha Kipgen while appreciating the MPCB Chairman for his concern for the people of Kangpokpi, said that the installation of an Ambient Air Monitoring Station would help the people in getting clean air & water and promote a healthier lifestyle.
The ambient air quality monitoring stations(manual) is monitoring four parameters such as particulate matter (PM10) and Particulate Matter (PM2.5) under the category of Dust and Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) and Oxides of Nitrogen (NO2) under the category of Gaseous Components.
The sampling duration shall be 16/24 hours from time to time and the minimum monitoring shall be 2/3 times per week while the annual monitoring days should be a minimum of 104 days.
The sanctioned amount for the manual air monitoring station for procurement of the instruments/equipment is Rs 7 lakh per station.
Lunseh Kipgen, Chairman Kangpokpi Town Committee while lauding the local MLA Nemcha Kipgen and MPCB Chairman L Radhakishore Singh, said that the installing and launching of the Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station at Kangpokpi was a historic event.
He also presented a traditional shawl to L Radhakishore Singh as a mark of gratitude and appreciation.
