NITI Ayog places Manipur at 4th place in NE

Imphal, August 28 2021: Imphal West is the top performing district of the State based on the North Eastern Region District SDG Index compiled by NITI Ayog.

The State was placed at the fourth place in the Index.

103 districts out of 120 districts from the North East were selected for the study and the data was released on Thursday.

East Sikkim topped the overall list while Imphal West district at 14th rank was the top performing district of the State.

The score for the 103 districts ranges from 53.00 in Kiphire (Nagaland) to 75.87 in East Sikkim.

The score range in each State is as follows:

a.Sikkim: between 71.87 and 75.87
b.Tripura: between 71.93 and 75.73
c.Mizoram: between 63.40 and 74.87
d.Manipur: between 64.93 and 72.13
e.Assam: between 62.67 and 71.73
f.Arunachal Pradesh: between 55.60 and 68.87
g.Meghalaya: between 56.87 and 66.27
h.Nagaland: between 53.00 and 64.07

In the North East region, Imphal West with a score of 72.13 is ranked at 14; Imphal East at 21 with a score of 70.87; Bishnupur at 26 with a score of 69.27; Thoubal at 29 with 68.93; Chandel at 44 with a score of 67.47; Senapati at 51 with a score of 66.93; Churachandpur at 55 with 66.53 score; Ukhurl at 63 with 65.27 points while Tamenglong is at 65 rank with 64.93 points.

The districts are divided into 4 categories based on their points with 'Achiever at 100'; 'Front Runner at 65-99'; 'Performer at 50-64' and 'Aspirant at 0-49' .

Tamenglong is the only district of the State in the performer category while all the other districts excluding Jiribam, Kakching, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, Noney, Pherzawl and Tengnoupal, which were not included in the study, made it to front runner category.

16 goals were considered for the study including Poverty; Hunger; Health and Wellbeing; Quality education; Gender equality; Clean water and sanitation and Climate action amongst others.

Bishnupur and Imphal West were amongst the top performing districts on 'Zero Hunger' goal while Churachandpur was amongst the top performing districts in 'Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions' goal.

The North Eastern Region (NER) District SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Index Report 2021
22 is a collaborative effort between NITI Aayog, Ministry of Development of North East Region (MDoNER) and UNDP.

This report assesses the 120 districts within the 8 States: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim, on 84 indicators across 15 SDGs and 50 targets.

The NER District SDG Index Report and Dashboard celebrates achievements and identifies areas for focused attention for achieving sustainable development in the region.

The index will foster peer learning and enable SDG monitoring at the sub-National level, 'leaving no-one behind' .
