Ukhrul, August 28 2021: The womenfolk of Chingai area villages should embrace the Van Dhan Vikas Kendra and take the benefits of the centrally sponsored schemes to bring a change in the local economy by tapping on the forest wealth, said Chingai AC MLA, Khashim Vashum at a one day advocacy programme on VDVK.
The one day advocacy programme on VDVK was organised by the District Division Forest, Ukhrul at District Forest office Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
Khashim Vashum who attended the programme as the chief guest said that the VDVK project also emphasized on financial empowerment of the women community by encouraging them in various activities.
The MLA also expressed his concern over the rapid degradation of forest in Raphei area in Ukhrul District due to rampant deforestation.
He dwelt on judicious utilization of forest products through value addition to generate sustainable income.
Every SHG must cooperate with one another to excel in business activities by establishing their own enterprises, he said.
Meanwhile DFO Ukhrul, Shangam Shaliwo in his keynote addresses highlighted the main objectives on Van Dhan Vikas Kendra while adding that the project concentrates on harnessing the Forest wealth and efficient utilization of natural resources by the tribal community to develop their economy.
He said that Ukhrul District is included in one of the best performing VDVK of the State and additional 10 clusters have also been reportedly allotted for the district.
During the programme, SDO Chingai, L Thangal and Additional SP, Ringthing Hongchui also encouraged and motivated the villagers.
Moreover, the MLA also extended his support to the movement for forest preservation in the district and distributed basic equipment to 15 SHGs of Chingai Sub-division, Ukhrul.
Khashim Vashum also provided monetary assistance to the SHGs to support the womenfolk in their business activities.
It might be mentioned that Van Dhan Vikas Kendra is implemented by TRIFED and is sponsored by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
