Ranjan pitches for Atmanirbhar Bharat

Imphal, August 22 2021: Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Education Dr RK Ranjan Singh has stated 'we should carry forward the State to a higher level of development with the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat' while addressing 'Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav' celebrations at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong today.

The main agenda of the function was to discuss different issues related to education, external affairs, trade and commerce, law and order, art and culture and sports with the Cabinet Ministers and MLAs of Manipur.

Recollecting India's glorious history, culture and scientific and technological advancements over the last 75 years, the MoS stressed on the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to transform India to a knowledge Nation by 2047 .

He called upon people to contribute in uplifting the education sector of India to the status of Nalanda University.

Ranjan also highlighted that the purpose of implementing National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is to aid the students compete at the global level.

On the occasion, Chief Minister N Biren Singh remarked that law and order situation, insurgency cases and road conditions in the North East States have improved considerably under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Drawing attention of the MoS, N Biren Singh made a proposal to materialise the Act East Policy that was earlier known as the Look East Policy.

The CM also stressed the need to fence at least 100 km along the border areas of Manipur.

On education, the Chief Minister suggested making Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) as an independent institution without affiliating to another University.

He also proposed establishing a National coaching centre at Imphal with funding from the Centre.

N Biren also suggested Ranjan to upgrade the National Highways along the Singnat-Behiang route.

IFS-Joint Secretary (Economic Division) Ministry of External Affairs Noor Rahman Sheikh made a presentation on Act East Policy and other trade development prospects of Manipur during the function that focuses on connectivity, trilateral highways and multilateral development banks.

The five Tokyo Olympians from Manipur were also felicitated during the programme.

A short video clip on the history and journey of India's independence was also presented during the function followed by a State song "Sanaleibak Manipur" .

A documentary on Mekong Ganga was also played as a part of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mohatsav'.

Cabinet Ministers, MLAs of Manipur and other officials concerned were also present at the function.
