Imphal, August 25 2021: A one day training programme on 'Cultivation and Post-Harvest Management of Black pepper and King Chilli' under "Promotion of Spices in North East under NEH Component" was organized by the College of Agriculture on August 24 at College of Agriculture, CAU, Iroisemba, Imphal through virtual/hybrid mode.
The online awareness programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof Indira Sarangthem, Dean in collaboration with the Directorate of Research, CAU, Imphal Dr S Basanta Singh.
The training was sponsored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, Kerala.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Indira Sarangthem emphasised on the importance of spices in relation to better health and economy of the farming community.
During the technical session, Dr Ps Mariam Anal, Nodal Officer for Promotion of Spices in North East under NEH Component, Dr M Chanchan, Dr Bireswer Sinha and Dr Ng Piloo, COA, CAU, Imphal explained in details about the cultivation of Black pepper, importance and scope of spices, management of diseases and Post-harvest management and value addition of King Chilli.
Altogether seventy farmers from six districts of Manipur- Bishnupur, Imphal East, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Chandel and Kangpokpi participated in the programme through virtual/hybrid mode.
Planting materials of Black pepper, plant protection chemicals, etc were distributed to the farmers.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof UC Singh, Department of Horticulture, COA, CAU, Imphal.
