Noney, August 07 2021: "Jal Jeevan Mission" scheme, a national flagship programme which aims to provide safe drinking water to every household, under the Ministry of Jaal Shakti is under implementation in Noney district.
According to K Ibochou Singh, executive engineer PHED Noney Division, every household in Noney district will be provided safe drinking water by the end of January 2022 .
For Noney district, a fund of Rs 23.79 crore had already been sanctioned by the government in the fiscal year 2020-2021 for 32 Water Supply Schemes.
In all, 3297 households in 26 different villages with a population of 15,218 are being identified and the work progress has reached 80 percent even despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Water supply scheme for villages not covered in the Jaal Jeevan Mission will also be taken up under externally aided programme funded by New Development Bank.
Now, the department concerned has started the process of inviting work tender.
Moreover, under Hill Areas Development Programme (HADP), which is funded by the Ministry of DoNER, various water supply projects are being taken up in Haochong and Nungba Blocks and they will be completed by the end of this year.
Once all these water supply projects are completed and handed over to the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), the people of Noney district will no longer suffer from lack of safe drinking water, the EE said.
