Kak/Tbl, August 08 2021: Villages Community Progressive Committee Manipur (VCPC) on Sunday organised a tree plantation drive at Yairipok Sings Idiqah Road.
The drive conducted with the theme "Better Environment, Better Tomorrow, Save The Planet" was participated by Yairipok PS, OC MD Riyajuddin.
A total of 170 tree saplings were planted during the drive.
Meanwhile, the Voluntary Network for a Green Earth Manipur planted 5 banyan tree saplings in the name of Tokyo Olympic 2020 Weightlifting Silver Medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu in Khangabok today.
Speaking on the occasion, Voluntary Network for Green Earth Manipur convenor, Laishram Devan stated that the tree saplings were planted to motivate the athletes of the State and to honor the achievements of Saikhom Mirabai who is an inspiration to many athletes.
He also mentioned that 20 teak trees were also planted on July 24 in the name of Saikhom Mirabai along the bank of Arong River.
Similarly, former councillors of Kakching Municipal Council, local clubs, CSOs and student organisations also carried out a tree plantation drive in the area near Kakching Garden today.
Speaking on the occasion, ex-MLA of Kakching AC, Yengkhom Surchandra appealed to the people to cultivate the habit of planting trees in order to mitigate global warming and climate change.
