Senapati, June 04 2021: The Department of Chemistry, Don Bosco College (Autonomous) organised an 'International webinar' on the theme 'Ecosystem Restoration' today.
The webinar was organised in relation to the World Environment Day, which is observed on June 5 every year to remind the people about the importance of nature.
Fr Dr K O Sebastian, the principal of the college in his welcome address exhorted the participants to nurture nature and take care of its resources.
Sr Dr Bindu Thomas, the HOD of the department introduced the theme for the World Environment Day 2021 .
She said that all the types of ecosystems could be restored, including forests, farmlands, cities, wetlands and oceans.
Restoration initiatives can be launched by almost anyone, from governments and development agencies to businesses, communities and individuals.
Dr Chingakham Chinglenthoiba, Post-Doctoral Fellowship, NUS, Singapore enlightened the participants on the topic 'Micro-plastic', Dr Augustine Pamplany, Director, Institute Of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, Cochin, Kerala also delivered a lecture on 'Geoengineering: A Technological Response to Ecosystem Restoration'.
Dr Augustine Pamplany explained how the Geoengineering methods are intended to reduce climate change, which is already having demonstrable effects on ecosystem structure and functioning in some regions. At the end of the webinar, an open session was held to clarify the doubts of the participant.
