Imphal, June 05 2021: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed to the people of Manipur to be more sensitive to nature and the environment to restore the natural order of things on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The theme of this year's observance is 'Reimagine, Recreate, Restore'.
In his message, N Biren said that World Environment Day is one of the biggest annual events organised by the United Nations (UN) in recognition of the value of the environment.
Saying that taking care of nature before tending to our needs first is imperative, the CM urged all to plant more and more trees to secure the planet.
"Nature is our mother," he added.
The World Environment Day 2021 programme was also held at Imphal, Manipur by Oil PSUs today on the theme "Ecosystem Restoration"
The programme was organized virtually by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The main part of the event was the address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Nation.
The PM said that the focus on ethanol is having a better impact on the environment as well as on the lives of farmers and added that it has been resolved to meet the target of 20 percent ethanol blending in petrol by 2025 .
The Prime Minister also said that India as emerged as the leader for climate justice.
On the occasion the PM also released the Report of the Expert Committee on Road Map for ethanol blending in India 2020-2025 at an event organised to mark World Environment Day.
At the start of the event, the Prime Minister also interacted with farmers and discussed their experience as enablers under the Ethanol Blended Petrol and Compressed Biogas Programmes.
To commemorate the World Environment Day, the Government is releasing the E-20 notification that will allow oil companies to sell 20% ethanol blended petrol from April 1, 2023, and BIS specifications for higher ethanol blends E12 and E15.Every year on June 5, people around the world observe World Environment Day to raise awareness about the importance of nature and to inspire positive change towards the environment.
