Senapati, April 28 2021: Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram was conferred the 'One District One Green Champion' Award by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Union Ministry of Education, under Swachhta Action Plan 2020-21 .
DBC Maram received this Swachhta award on various parameters including best sanitation and hygiene, rainwater harvesting, solar energy, solid waste management and sprawling green and clean campus.
Dr Fr KO Sebastian, Principal of the College expressed his gratitude and mentioned that he is happy that the initiative of the Department of Higher Education has to embark on the mission through the Standard Operating Procedure on Swachhta for its institutions, setting forth practices that must be implemented in all higher educational institutions.
He exhorted all institutions of Manipur to meticulously follow the parameters of campus hygiene laid out by MGNCRE so that the minds of the students flourish in a clean and pure campus atmosphere.
Along with education, Swachhta is the most precious lesson that can be learnt in an educational institution, as it defines their personalities.
The award was the outcome of concerted efforts carried out by the staff and students of the College in carrying out plantation drive, cleanliness drive, construction of compost pits, rain water harvesting, water conservation programme, solar energy and celebrating important days like Van mahotsav, Earth Day, World wetland day, world environment day, water conservation week etc.
It is worthwhile to mention that the Swachhta ranking exercise under the Swachhta Action Plan has been initiated by the Department of Higher Education (MHRD) to generate healthy peer pressure among higher educational institutions for keeping and maintaining hygienic campus.
