Forest Department observes International Day for Biological Diversity

Tml/ Tbl/Jiri/Kpi, May 22 2018: As the world observed the International Day for Biological Diversity, Forest Departments across the State too observed the day. Tamenglong Forest Division today observed the day at Dialong village in Tamenglong under the aegis of Manipur Biodiversity Board, GoM. Dr Chambo Gonmei, CMO of Tamenlong and Honorary Wildlife Warden attended the program as chief guest. 20 (twenty) sets of Fuel Saving Devices (pressure cookers) for the low income families were distributed by the Tamenglong Forest Division. 2 (two) sets, each of binoculars and birds guide books were also presented to the Dailong Village Authority and Dailong Youth Club. It may be mentioned that Dailong village was declared as a biodiversity heritage site by the State Government in the year 2016.More than 100 including Village Authority leaders and Church leaders attended the observance. Thoubal Forest Division too observed the day under the banner "Celebrating 25 Years of Action for Biodiversity" at the conference hall of the Thoubal Forest Division. Assistant Conservator of Forest Thoubal Division Vahneichong Singson, Range Officer of Kakching Range N Munal Meitei, social worker Laishram Subhas and advisor AMWJU N Tombi Raj attended the observations programme as presidium members. Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Jiribam too observed the day at Division Office Complex, Uchathol, Jiribam. Kh Janaki Devi, Adhakshya Jiribam, Ch Ibomcha Singh, DFO Jiribam, A Sadananda (MPS), Asst Commandant 7 IRB and H Rajen Kumar Singh, Honorary Wild Life Warden, Jiribam District attended the event as presidium members. Divisional Forest Officer, Kangpokpi Forest Division too joined the observation with a programme held at Bishnulal Government High School, Charhajare, Kangpokpi. Th Mohendra Pratap Singh, Chief Conservator of Forests, Territorial-I, L Lukhoi Singh, Conservator of Forests, Northern Forest Circle and Sanjoy Ningthoujam, Associate Professor, GP Women's College, Imphal attended the event as presidium members. Esther Laltankim Serto, DFO Kangpokpi, Ph Sanayaima Sharma, RFO Kangpokpi and L Jugindro Singh, RFO Saikul also attended the observation. Plantation of seedlings within the school campus of Bishnulal Government High School and distribution of seedling to the students were the main highlights of the event.
