Rs. 500 crores approved for cleaning Loktak and Nambul

IMPHAL | Apr 12 : For cleaning of solid waste particles from Loktak lake and Nambul river, Central government has approved Rs. 400 crores and Rs. 100 crores respectively, said  chairmen, Manipur pollution control broad (MPCB) K. Radhakishore. Centre government sanctioned the amount for two projects for cleaning waste from Loktak and Nabul. The projects will be carried out for 15 years. Radhkishore was briefing the reporters at the MPCB office in connection with the one day sansitisation workshop on biological waste to the students of Regional Institution of Medical Sciences (RIMS).  Among various programmes taken up by the government, the one-day programme on sensitisation cum workshop on biological solid waste is being held to provide awareness to the MBBS students of RIMS. One of the concerns at present is proper treatment and disposal of the biological solid waste products from government and private hospital of the state. Most of the private hospitals do not have proper dumping site and proper treatment of the solid waste, he said. An enquiry was carried out by the department in connection with solid waste management in hospitals. Many of them did not have proper dumping of solid waste. The awareness campaign launched by the department has brought positive result, he added. The pollution control board is looking forward to hold a mega awareness program on the impact of the biological solid waste, on how to give proper treatment and how to control the solid in all the districts of the state for which he had hold a meeting with chief minister N. Biren, said Radhakishore. MPCB is looking forward to form a district level committee for holding the awareness campaign consisting of concern DCs, SPs district ZEO, PHED EE, club and students, he said. He said during the awareness programme more than four thousand schools and 100 colleges all over the state will be covered in the mass awareness campaign. The campaign will be launched by the end of April.  The previous government have send their proposal for the lake City and in a continues process of that the present government recast the DPR and are given approval by the centre government he said.
