Bee keeping and environment conservation training programme

IMPHAL | March 1 : A training programme on bee keeping was organised by Pfunemai Community Reserve Management Committee in association with Senapati Forest Division, Forest department at Kalinamai village. A release said villagers from Rabunamei, Kalinamai, Phikomai, Song Song and Kayinu villages attended the programme. President, Senapati Bee Keeping association, Francis briefed on agro-ecological requirements, forage, absconding, swarming, hive placement, honey production potential, harvesting and processing and demonstrated various activities of bee keeping, it said. An awareness programme was also organised on environment conservation, it further said.  President of Green Hills Society, Joyson Tao spoke on factors contributing to forest degradation and resource person from Azim Premji Foundation, L Tirang Rangsanamei stressed the importance of community participation in conservation. Rajesh A. M. DFO, Senapati Forest Division, spoke on natural resource conservation, it informed.  The speakers on the occasion highlighted the various benefits (including the livelihood component, training, awareness, potential for ecotourism etc) of having community reserve and acknowledged the support of forest department, Government of Manipur, it continued. A booklet on “Forests and wildlife conservation and community reserves” was released on the occasion, it added.
