Mass tree plantation held in Tamenglong

In connection with the World Environment Day, mass cleaning and tree plantation was held at Tamenglong district headquarters early in the morning today.
The programmed was organised by Rain Forest Club Tamenglong and it was attended by deputy commissioner (DC) of Tamenglong, Armstrong Pame and CMO 23 Assam Riffles, Manish Panday.
The week long observance was formally launched by the DC of Tamenglong by planting of tree sapling at Haipou Jadonang Park, a children park at Tamenglong.
Speaking as chief guest, Armstrong Pame said that people need to protect the environment and observance World Environment Day is to give strong message to the people of future generation. He also urged all sections of the people to participate in environment related activities and give maximum cooperation.
Dr Chambo Gonmei, chief medical officer of Tamenglong who is also a member of Rain Forest Club Tamenglong announced that there will be marathon for both boys and girls like previous year on the main day on June 5, followed by walkathon for elderly people with hand prizes for all categories.
Green Village and Green Ward award will also awarded to villages and wards of Tamenglong district, added Chambo.
Tree saplings were later planted at Gadai prayer mountain range and it was joined by church leaders, club members, 23 Assam Rifles.
