Awareness programme on e-waste

Steps for disposal policy for electronic waste will be initiated in Manipur said Nambam Deban, additional director, department of Information Technology.

Talking to IFP on the sideline of an awareness programme on environmental hazards of electronic waste under Digital India held at Temple of Learning school, Canchipur today Deben said the awareness programme was jointly organised by Ministry of Information Technology (MeitY), Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA), NASSCOM foundation, Manufacturers Association of Information Technology (MAIT).

Deban further said due to the advancement of science and technology many have owned electronic devices starting from smart phone. In some places non-professionals are disposing the electronic waste in order to take useful materials from the device which might cause health hazard.

As the state is in an infant stage with regard to proper electronic waste disposal people can save from health hazards caused by electronic waste, he added.

Several students from seven different schools participated in the awareness programme.
