SDSA observes World Earth Day

The World Earth Day was observed at Indoor Stadium, Senapati DHQ with the theme ‘Environmental and climate literacy’, organised by Senapati District Student’s Association (SDSA).

There was a power shut down in the whole district from 8:30 am to 9:30 am to sound the collective alarm of energy conservation, and a quiz competition was conducted for the students of various schools, hosted by Siipuni Ng Philo.

The programme was attended by Col Neelesh Bhanot, SM, Dy CDR, 59 Mtn BDE, Col GK Mahindra, Commandant 34 AR, army officers, Lohrii John, general secretary of NPO, Theophilus Rangmathat, president of PNTM, Luikang, president of MKS, Amar Kadeikeimi, president of TAJ, Nelia Mao, general secretary of SDWA, school principal, teachers and students from various schools.

Col GK Mahindra said that World Earth day is generally kind of awareness for protecting and saving our mother earth from endangering elements, and urged the students to be an ambassador of change in future and continue to live in a good environment.

Lohrii John appealed the public to plant more trees followed by giving a good care and further said to stop using plastics materials.

Col Neelesh Bhanot, who is the special guest asserted that the Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 every year and various events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environment protection.

The main aim is to protect future generation from the side effects of global warming and it aim to encourage people across the world to be more environmentally friendly, and moreover the army and the people of Senapati have to come together to undertake tree plantation and cleanliness drives, added Neelesh Bhanot.
