Floating school opens in belly of Loktak

 World Wetland Day brings education to water children

A floating school for dropouts was inaugurated today at Loktak lake on the occasion of the World Wetlands Day.

All Loktak Lake Fishermen’s Union, Manipur (ALLAFUM) in collaboration with Indigenous Perspectives, Centre for Organisation Research and Education,Peoples Resource Development Association(PRDA), Centre for Research and Advocacy Manipur, All Manipur Progressive Farmers Association, in association with the directorate of environment, government of Manipur, also observed the day with the theme ‘Wetlands for Our Future Generations’ at a floating village Langolsabi Leikai of Champu Khangpok in northern part of Manipur’s Loktak lake on Thursday.

As part of the day’s observation, a floating elementary school ‘Loktak Elementary Floating School’, a community initiative school for the children (mostly the dropouts) in the floating village - Champu Khangpok in Manipur’s Loktak Lake was also inaugurated. read more>>
