Imphal, July 05 2016: The Art of Living International Organisation has organised Environment Day, a tree plantation Seva for Guru Purnima in collaboration with Forest Department, various organisations and clubs from Manipur. The tree plantation Seva has been started on July 3 at Lamdaibung Social Welfare Club of Kakwa, Nambul Mapan Youth Clubs of Keishamthong, Model Club and Ward Development Committee of Singjamei Chingamakha for 450 saplings. The Seva will continue till July 31 in Imphal West, Imphal East and Bishnupur district for about 400 saplings to encourage environmental responsibility and conservation of natural resources, according to a press release issued by Co-ordinator of Youth Leadership Training Program, Art of Living International Organisation, Elangbam Anita.
Orange grown in Tameng-long district is famous for its taste while siroi lily, the state flower of Manipur is a rare Indian species of plant found only in the upper reaches of the Siroi hill ranges in Ukhrul district and Shirarakhong chilly grown in Shirarakhong village of Ukhrul district is different from other chilly in size, colour and taste. The announcement comes in the wake of a renewed focus by the Manipur government on Horticulture. Giving a brief account of various works, the director said that his department was targeting to cover 80% of the total area potential for development of horticulture.
