MANIPUR UPDATE NEWS/IMPHAL, Jun 28 :

People for Animals (PFA) Manipur continue its animal rescue drive in the state. One Ningthoujam Prafulo of Kakching Wairi Ningthoujam Leikai handed over an open billed stork after he witnessed the bird being caught by some children from Eco park of Kakching, says a release.

He rushed and asked the children to free the bird but the children are not ready to accept the advice at first. As a last measure, he purchased the bird at Rs 200 from them. “Later after feeding snails and claws, he approached us through our contact (a local daily). The stork was stabilized and freed at a suitable site,” says Managing Trustee L Biswajeet Meitei of PFA Manipur in the release.

In another event one Yensenbam Manitomba of Serou Bazaar rescued a 5ft long common cobra. He found the venomous serpent near his house. Local insisted him to kill but instead of doing so he informed PFA Manipur to collect the same. The snake was rescued and released on the same day at a suitable site.

In another incident, a Bengal slow loris was rescued from Yairipok Khoirom Maning. One Haobam Ibobi found it climbing on his gate on Friday night. He handed over the animal to PFA Manipur. One bird net was also recovered from Heiyeloubuk area. Passersby informed PFA about the net, the release added.
