Awareness programme on "Cultivation and post-harvest management of spices" held

Bishnupur, January 28 2022: As part of the "Promotion of Spices in North East under NEH Component", College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, on Friday organised a one day awareness programme on cultivation and post-harvest management of spices with reference to Black pepper and King Chili at Maibam Kabui village in Bishnupur district.

The training programme was conducted under the guidance of Professor Indira Sarangthem, Dean, COA, CAU, Imphal in collaboration with the Directorate of Research, CAU, Imphal, Dr S Basanta Singh, said a release.

It was sponsored by ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, Kerala.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ps Mariam Anal, Assistant Professor cum Nodal Officer for Promotion of Spices in North East under NEH Component, COA, Imphal elaborated on the importance and scope of spices in relation to better health for immune booster especially during Covid pandemic and economy of the farming community.

During the technical session, Dr Kh Ibohal Singh, Associate Professor & Head (Entomology); Dr N Surbala, Assistant Professor (SSAC) and Dr Ps Mariam Anal, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), COA, CAU, Imphal explained in details about the cultivation of spices, nutrient management of spices, management of pests and post-harvest management and value addition of spices.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Azin Panmei, president of Youth, Maibam Kabui village.

About 30 farmers participated in the training programme.
